Friday Foodie Link-up: Smoothies

Hello all and welcome to Foodie Friday Link-ups!  I am joined by Farrah from Fairyburger, Montana from Pretty Lil Mudder, Emily from Whatever Floats Your Oats and Annmarie from the Fit Foodie Mama!  Today’s theme is the Smoothies!!

Possible Logo for Foodie FridayI have always loved smoothies!  When I was in college I pretty much made one every morning in my dorm room!  I was an RA my junior and senior year and my girls would hear my smoothie maker going in the mornings and come over for some!  Hello easy breakfast to drink on the way to class!
This was similar to the one I had in college and grad school! It literally gave me a way to get lots of nutrition in my life!  I know blenders/smoothie makes have come along way over the last 12 years!

So back to some smoothie recipes!  I am a huge fan of ‘Green Smoothies!’  Until the last 2 years I never had heard of this concept, but I am SO glad I did!  It makes me happy to know that I am adding extra nutrition and cutting the sugar I am drinking in my smoothies!

My basic recipe is:
2 cups greens (kale or spinach or both) + 1/2c – 3/4c liquid (coconut water or almond/coconut milk) + 2 – 3 fruits (a mix of fresh and frozen).

1. Blend greens and liquid
2. Add fresh fruit and blend
3. Add frozen fruit and blend

Coconut water + mixed greens + 1 banana + 1 mango = Green deliciousness!
Even the twins I nanny LOVE to make smoothies! They even request spinach and kale by name!

In April I did a smoothie challenge and did at least 1 smoothie a day!  It was really fun to try new recipes and to change up my normal routine!  Of the new ones I tried was spinach, coconut water, raspberries and frozen mango chunks!  It was heavenly!

Have been also doing a lot of strawberry/banana smoothies!
Almond milk + mixed greens +1 banana + 7 large strawberries

Basically get some yummy fruits and veggies in an easy drink!  You can also add protein powder or nut butters for a nice post-workout recovery drink!

What kind of smoothies do YOU love?

I remember the first time I made a green smoothie about 4(?)-ish years back, one of my roommates saw it and thought I’d finally lost it, haha. This looks great (mango, coconut water, raspberries, ahhh!! <3)! I love sneaking spinach/kale into my smoothies. :]!

I haven’t tried green smoothies yet. I’m having trouble with the muddy color, but may have to just close my eyes and try one. I hear they taste really good and I’m sure are good for you.

For me the key for a pretty color is to use some greens (spinach, kale, chard, mixed greens, ect), add your choice of liquid, and stick with more tropical fruits and stay away from berries. If you add any sort of berries then the color gets all wonky! If you want berries in it, use a non-clean glass 🙂 Let me know if you try any 🙂

I was a little late to the party on this one- it was such a hectic week! But all your smoothies look amazing!! Trying the raspberries and mango one right now haha…I never thought of adding raspberries to my tropical fruit smoothies but it sounded like a great idea!

It is all good girl! It has been crazy here too (replying almost a week late…). Thank you for your inspiration to share smoothies! I love making them and playing around with the ingredients! What did you think of the mango/raspberry combo?
      Looking forward to Friday!

I love that you sneak in greens too! I’ve only tried spinach so far but you’ve inspired me to get more creative with my greens!
