Workout Update and Du the Bear Duathlon Recap

Hello friends!  Wow, seems like the past week of workouts has flown by!!  I know partially due to my race and feeling the anticipation and nervousness about it.  Time is short today, so let’s get right to it!

Review of my goals from last week:
Friday: 10 mile bike ride, 2 mile run and piyo
Saturday: Rest up for the race
Sunday: Duathlon- 2 mile run, 10 mile bike and 2 mile run (maybe a wog at this point)
Monday: Body pump & volleyball
Tuesday: 4 mile run & zumba
Wednesday: Body pump and 3-5 mile run

What actually happened:
Friday- 8.5 miles bike ride (other plans were derailed by life, but it is ok!) My friend was kind enough to let me park at her house so I had a nice flat area to bike!  

 
Saturday- Rest actually did happen!
Sunday- Duathlon happened.  Running was as expected…slow, but I crushed my bike goals!  (See recap at the bottom)
Monday- Body Pump had a new release and it was HARD but really good.  Volleyball was somewhat hilarious.  I could not seem to get my act together.      

Tuesday- 3 miles on the elliptical and 1/2 of the Zumba class.  My body was finally sore and my energy level was down.  We had a substitute instructor and she was good but way to high paced for how I was feeling.
Wednesday- I decided to take it a little easier and only did Body Pump. 

 

What I learned- I need to get back to my running 3 times a week.  I have another race in a few weeks and I need to get my rear in gear!
I joined a 6 week fitness challenge so I hope that encourages me to push and do my best and kick some booty!
I lost a few lbs, but I really don’t know how to trust my scale…Some days the numbers move around like the scale on the Biggest Loser show, but it never stops!  I know the number is just that, a number, and I am relying more on how I feel and how my clothes fit.  Plus I know I have gained some muscle which is happy for me!  I was looking in the mirror last night and I FINALLY saw some definition in my back!  I was so stoked that I had to show the Hubs!  He wasn’t surprised at all and he told me that I was always strong and full of muscle.  Oh that sweet man!

Goals for this coming week:

Thursday: Body pump & 2 miles
Friday: Piyo and maybe 3 miles
Saturday: Body Pump and a bike ride
Sunday: REST
Monday: Body pump & volleyball
Tuesday: 2-3 mile run & zumba
Wednesday: Body pump and 3-4 mile run

Du the Bear Duathlon Recap!

Early Sunday morning my friend Stacie and I woke up and got ready for the race! We got our tattoos on and loaded up the truck! 

   
 

We drove down to the state park and made our way to check in!  We racked our bikes and set our items up then went to get our timing chips. I finished off the race last year with 2 gentlemen and I looked around for them, but didn’t spot them. After we were all checked in and set to go we hung around, used the potty and just chatted. 

  
The race began. The men went off first!  Then 5 min later the relay teams and women began. I said bye to Stacie and let pretty much everyone pass in front of me. I knew I would be much slower than most of the pack. I started out in the very back. As the run started it was chilly. I decided just to take it slow, especially since my hip has been bothering me on and off the past 2 weeks. I slowly made my way through the first 2 miles. I managed to pass up 1 girl and there was another lady (mid 60s or so-amazing) who was trucking along right in front of me. 

I made it back to the transition area and got ready to bike. I knew my biking would be much better than my running. The first 2 miles were a little slow and I was having to pass people and then cut over to be passed by other people. The route was a 5 mile loop that we had to do twice. Each time I passed someone I felt like some of my hard work was paying off! I ended up passing about 20 or so people biking. I knew the second run would still be slow for me, so I wanted go as fast as possible! 

I felt like I crushed the biking part even though it was pretty windy and part of the route was really bumpy! 

 
The second run wasn’t as bad as I thought. I kept telling myself that it was only 2 miles and to suck it up buttercup! Near the finish line I felt someone coming up behind me. One thing about races is no matter what has happened or how tied I am, I kick into high gear and sprint the finish. This race was no different. 

Race was over! We did it! And Stacie placed 3rd in her age group!!    

Overall is was a fun race and a beautiful day! Our company afterwards was the best!!

    COngrats on your race!

    Nothing like feeling someone coming up on you to make you run like it’s Chukie chasing you-lol!!!

    I think I am going to transition into Duathalons and Tri next year…the Dr is telling my to reduce pressure on my knee due to arthritis 😦
