San Diego part 1: The Zoo

Hello friends! Happy Monday!
Summer is flying by! I spent my weekend home for the first time since mid May.  Between my travels, pet sitting and a few random weekends with clients, I have hardly seen my bed!  So this weekend home I cranked out some organizing projects that I have been wanting to do, restocked our fridge (thank you Costco), did a ton of errands, taught a class and spent some much needed time with the Hubs!

Last year when I heard that BlogFest/Idea World were going to be in San Diego, I got SUPER excited!  I had never been there, and it has been a dream since I was a child.  When I was in second grade, my grandfather gave me a stuffed koala bear from the zoo as a gift, and ever since then I have wanted to visit the San Diego Zoo!
I decided to see if I could make it out a little before the conference to take a trip to the zoo!

I flew in late Tuesday night instead of my normal Wednesday to take advantage of a little spare time.  My normal room at the hotel was not ready till Wednesday, but thankfully one of my sweet friends let me crash in her room Tuesday night.

I got up Wednesday and headed over to the zoo.  It wasn’t too far from the hotel so it was just a quick Uber ride over.

I purchased a ticket that allowed me entry into the zoo, and also access to the zoo bus tour, the Kangaroo bus (lets you on and off and certain locations), and the tram across the zoo.

It was a GORGEOUS day and I spent about 5 hours walking around seeing different exhibits, and especially took time to see my fav animals!

Here are some pics of the day…

The beautiful greenery/flowers, elephants and polar bears!

Birds, gorillas, zebras, flamingos, & giraffes!

Some other random assortment of animals.

And of course the Koalas!  They were asleep when I made it over to see them, but they were so precious! I may have cried a few tears of joy when I saw them!

They had a really neat exhibit of the tar pits and fossils of the animals that used to live in southern CA

I am not the biggest fan of heights, so I was really proud of myself for taking the tram across the zoo! It was a really beautiful view!

That’s a wrap!

Have you been to the San Diego zoo?
What is your favorite animal to see at the zoo?

More on San Diego and BlogFest and Idea World and all that happened coming soon!

I did Rock n Rool San Diego 2 years ago and one thing I missed out on was visiting the San Diego zoo. From your photos, it looks like I definitely need to make that a priority when I visit the city again!

I’ve never been to San Diego and am so bummed I wasn’t able to make BlogFest this year! We just bought a house in May and too much was going on to swing a trip to the West Coast at the end of June. But I def need to make it out to San Diego to visit at some point in the future, and the zoo is on my bucket list there.

OMG, those adorable sleepy koalas!!!! I love them!!! Even though I have heard they will happily rip your face off! But then why are they so cute???

I have always heard amazing things about the SD Zoo. I hope to be able to visit one day.

I have been to SD, but not to the zoo there. I do enjoy going to zoos, though. We have been to the Milwaukee County Zoo numerous times (my hubby’s insurance company HQ is in Milwaukee and they would rent out the zoo for an evening for all the families during their annual meeting). A.M.A.Z.I.N.G. It’s always fun to see the animals!

I’ve never been to the SD zoo, but everyone who has says it’s a must see!!! It’s been years since I’ve been to any zoo–my boys are grown and they were always my reason for going!

How fun you were able to fulfill a childhood dream. The SD Zoo looks incredible. I’ve always enjoyed the zoo and we had a pass at our local zoo when the kids were little. I recently took my 3 years old grand daughter. It was a blast. It’s too hard to pick a favorite animal! Thanks for linking.

I have been to SD but not to the zoo! and now I’m wishing I had gone! It looks amazing! My favorite animal, hands down, is the Elephant. a close second would be giraffes but now that I see those flamingos I think I’d have to make those a priority next time I get to the zoo!
